Lets Get Together
LGT started in July 2009, developed from an idea of Revd Linda Washington, as an outreach project
aimed at providing an occasional afternoon of social interaction and refreshments for the lonely and older
parishioners of the Woburn Benefice and other local villages.
LGT has developed into a monthly gathering in the Crypt on every second Thursday.
What Do We Get Up To?
Starting with ½ hour of seated Pilates led by Jo Taylor, a professional fitness instructor.
Followed by an afternoon of readings – poetry, stories, etc; or craft demonstrations –
flower arranging, cake decorating, card making, etc; or a quiz; or domino’s, beetle drive’s, etc.
From time to time we are lucky to be able to enjoy a speaker, such as DK with a slide show with a transport theme,
JK and others showing patchwork and lace making; or visiting musicians, such as Trefoil Guild hand bell ringers.
We run a monthly raffle which pays for any expenses incurred in providing homemade sandwiches and cakes for all.
The Church Outreach and Mission Fund pays the majority of Jo’s fees, otherwise we run on a shoestring.
Our December meeting is now run as a Christmas Lunch, cooked and served here in the Crypt,
for which we make a suitable charge to cover all the costs of what we are told by our members is a very good meal.
this occasion raffle proceeds are sent to local charities such as Willen Hospice.
At our members request we also, on fourth Thursday of alternate months, arrange a Pub Lunch for those who wish to attend at one of the local hostelries – this has included Afternoon Tea at Woburn Abbey!
Some of our members are infirm, some have minor disabilities, and require transport to Church or the Crypt door.
We are always looking for extra drivers to spread the load of transport to and from our meetings –
if you are able to assist with this from time to time please talk to Angela or Bob.
Our thanks are due to those of our team who make sandwiches and cakes, assist in setting up and clearing up, also happily driving members on the day.
Angela and Bob Franklin.
